The Greater Boston Guidance Association Officers

Dear Colleague:

Thank you for your interest in the Greater Boston Guidance Association (GBGA).

The Greater Boston Guidance Association (GBGA), formerly the Greater Boston Men's Guidance Association (GBMGA), is one of the prime guidance affiliates of the Massachusetts School Counselors Association (MASCA). The Greater Boston Guidance Association (GBGA) meets nine times a year (September-May) at Boston-area colleges/universities and restaurants. Our meetings are hosted by both area and distant colleges/universities. Meetings include a business component by our President, as well as a presentation by the college/university host, dinner, and an opportunity to socialize with peers. When allowed by our host, we occasionally have guest speakers. We typically attract 25-60 GBGA members at each meeting. Members are notified about the monthly meetings by email or mail by our Membership Coordinator/Secretary.

GBGA's annual membership dues are $15; our meeting dues are $3 per meeting. There is no membership cost for retired guidance counselors. Our membership consists of school guidance counselors, college admission counselors, guidance interns, and retirees, predominantly from the Greater Boston, North Shore, and South Shore areas. We currently have approximately 150 active members. Prospective counselors and interns may attend one meeting as a guest (no dues required) prior to becoming a member.

GBGA is generous in helping those in need; whether it is GBGA members and their families (e.g., memorial donations, flowers, etc.), local students (e.g., college scholarships) or local/worldwide organizations (e.g., charitable donations). GBGA recently sent $500 to the American Red Cross to assist those individuals who suffered from Hurricane Katrina. Our members are consulted on any/all issues where money and/or charitable donations are involved.

Each spring we honor one dedicated GBGA member as our Counselor of the Year.

For more information about joining, please contact Amy Redfearn, Membership Coordinator, at (508) 384-1569 or gbga@comcast.net

Sincerely,
Amy Redfearn, Membership Coordinator
